Wherever You Are, Make That Your Family and Your Home

In this week’s episode of The UpBeat Podcast powered by CoachArt, our Executive Director and host Greg is joined by Jenny Winter, a mother from San Diego who has a special perspective to share on a situation many people are experiencing all over the world.

Social distancing and quarantining have been a part of almost everyone’s life since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Jenny and her son Caleb had a lengthy headstart. Due to Caleb’s leukemia diagnosis a little over a year ago, he has been isolating at the hospital or home for the past 14 months, at times even unable to visit with his siblings.

Listen to Jenny’s Interview

It’s been a long and sometimes difficult journey, but Jenny’s here to share her amazing family’s advice and coping mechanisms for getting through extended periods of time away from friends, extended family, and typical experiences in public. Jenny’s special insight will help all families dealing with quarantine, especially those also dealing with chronic illness.

Jenny’s help inspired us to share some additional resources for people in a similar position to Caleb’s family.

The Global Healthy Living Foundation has a free COVID-19 Support Program for Chronic Disease Patients and Their Families. The program features advice and support from a wide range of experts and patients, as well as ways to help others.

— The University of Michigan Health blog shares a wonderful video discussion focusing on the impact of the pandemic on children with chronic illness. The video is part of their Thrive With Your Family series and features the expertise of numerous doctors from the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.

— The Atlantic Health System website presents a great article on how to navigate the emotional aspects of the pandemic while caring for a child with chronic illness. Written by psychologist Christopher Lynch, it breaks down specific challenges and includes tips to overcome them.
